Empowering Communities: Navigating Mental Health Challenges in Community Associations

On September 29, 2023, attorneys from Kaman and Cusimano attended the educational seminar hosted by the Northern Ohio Chapter of Community Association titled “Addressing Mental Health Challenges in Community Associations.” Kate Bushey, a partner at our firm and also the President of the Northern Ohio Chapter of Community Association, had the honor of introducing the keynote speaker, Noelle G. Hicks, during today’s enlightening presentation.

This informative session delved into the pertinent statutes relating to mental health issues, offered insights on navigating the enforcement of restrictive covenants in cases involving individuals with mental health challenges, and provided valuable best practices for effectively addressing these complex issues.

Notably, Noelle’s contributions to the industry have garnered recognition from CAI, including her pivotal role in shaping CAI’s Diverse and Inclusive Communities Guide. Noelle is also a distinguished member of the Texas Bar College and was honored with a spot on the National Black Lawyers Top 100 list in 2020. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Trinity University in 2005 and her Juris Doctorate from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in 2008.

At Kaman and Cusimano, we highly appreciate CAI’s commitment to providing ongoing education to its members and the broader community. A big congratulations to Noelle and Kate for their outstanding contributions to this seminar!
