Governor Evers Extends Wisconsin’s Safer at Home Order

Today Gov. Tony Evers extended the Safer at Home Order from April 24th to May 26, 2020, while allowing some businesses to start up again.  The starting spot though for any review of the order is paragraph 3, which identifies prohibited activities.  Here is what is says:

Prohibited activities. All public and private gatherings of any number of people that are not part of a single household or living unit are prohibited, except for the limited purposes expressly permitted in this Order. Nothing in this Order prohibits the gathering of members of a single household or living unit. Landlords or rental property managers shall avoid entering leased residential premises unless emergency maintenance is required.

Items included as exempt from the order are those that have been termed “Essential Businesses” under the Order.  In addition, certain businesses will be allowed to open on limited or full-time basis.  Those include:

  1. Public Libraries providing curb-side pick-up or providing food distribution;
  2. Golf courses, but no carts are allowed and payments and tee times must be made online as the pro-shops can’t open. In other words you can play golf;
  3. Arts and craft stores that offer curb-side pick-up; and
  4. Businesses that perform aesthetic or optional exterior lawn care or construction so long as it is done by one person.

In essence, the 75% of us who were stuck inside under the prior order can now, under the current Order, play golf, get a book from the library and do some arts and crafts.  Yippee!!!
